Community Labyrinth Project

Community involvement in a project can open alot of doors for growth.

The Labyrinth Project hopes to create a kindred community spirit while developing a permanent outdoor labyrinth on the grounds of Natural Pathways in Normandy Village.

A labyrinth is a single path designed for clarity; a maze has multiple pathways designed to confuse.  Labyrinths are usually in the form of a circle with a meandering single path leading to a center point.  Follow the path to the center, then follow it back out to the starting point. Walking the path allows for stress reduction—calming the body and mind by providing a space that guides a person’s focus inward.  The labyrinth touches our sorrows and releases our joys.  One can find inspiration or solve problems on the labyrinth path.  The many turns to the left and right reinforce an integration of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.  It offers a place where the rational reasoning mind is joined to the intuitive imaginative mind.  This is where wisdom comes from.

Labyrinths go back almost 5,000 years.  The oldest examples are found in Greece, Italy, and Siberia.  Historically, pilgrims walked labyrinth paths as a symbolic journey to Jerusalem.  Today labyrinths serve as a source of solace and spiritual introspection, as well as a tool for everyday focusing.

Many members of the community have expressed an interest in the Labyrinth Project.  If you have resources or ideas regarding a permanent labyrinth, or ways to educate the community on the benefits of a labyrinth, please email contact@path4u.net.
