History of Meditation

While most meditative techniques came Asian religious practices, particularly India, China and Japan, similar techniques can be found in many cultures around the world.

Researchers speculate that primitive hunter- gather societies may have discovered meditation with an altered state of consciousness, while staring at the flames of their fires.

While health benefits have long been documented in the originating cultures, it wasn’t until 1970 that the first articles were written in the United States. The health benefits of meditation were written in the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology and meditation became the first mind-body intervention in healthcare.
