Meditation
Meditation, a nondenominational, centuries-old technique used to calm the mind, has been found to be helpful to increase focus, center body and mind and reduce stress. Meditation is directed concentration. When your mind is tranquil in concentration, your breathing slows and deepens and balance begins.
There are many forms of meditation. They generally can be grouped into two styles; “formal” and
“informal”. “Formal” meditation refers to
the
structured techniques such as Zen sitting or the
use of mantra. A mantra is a
sound, syllable, word or group
of words repeated silently or in
the minds’ eye. “Informal”
meditation has the same principles,
but as you may have guessed, a less
formal approach and more integrated
into your daily routine. All forms of
meditation require daily practice over
a period of time to perfect, but all
forms have the same goal of inner peace.
