History of Reiki
The Usui System of Reiki is named after its founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. Relying on an oral tradition, The Reiki Alliance states that Dr. Usui was a Christian minister and educator in Kyoto in the late 1800’s. He responded to a challenge by his students and began an investigation into the healing phenomena of history’s greatest spiritual leaders. Through travel, study, research and meditation he rediscovered this healing practice based on ancient Buddhist teachings and spent the rest of his life applying and teaching this method of natural healing.
After his death, Dr. Usui’s work was continued in a clinic in pre-war Tokyo, run by Chujiro Hayashi. Mrs. Hawayo Takata of Hawaii was successfully relieved of her serious ailments at Hayashi’s Reiki clinic, and became his first know Western student. She practiced and taught throughout the US and Canada from 1937 until her death in 1980. Her grand daughter, Phyllis Furumoto, now carries on her work as Grandmaster in the Reiki tradition. Natural Pathways instructor and Reiki Master, Richard Casey was trained by Phyllis and now sits as her spiritual advisor. Today millions of people practice Reiki throughout the world and we continue to support the five ideals passed down by Dr. Usui.
Just for today do not worry.
Just for today do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn you living honestly.
Show gratitude for every living thing.
The Grandmaster lineage of Usui Shiki Ryoho.
